Dr. Patterson has lived in Shreveport for the past 17 years. He is the Chief of Mental Health at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, and was previously a Professor of Psychiatry at LSU Health Shreveport. While at LSU, he served as Director of Emergency Psychiatry for 10 years. In these roles he has seen, evaluated, and treated many patients who suffer from addiction, including methamphetamine. He also has an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, & Neuroscience at LSU Health in Shreveport, as well as serving in the role of staff psychiatrist for Holy Angels Residential Facility in Shreveport. Dr. Patterson received both his MD and PhD (Neuroscience) from the combined degree program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1996. He completed three years of residency at UTMB Psychiatry and then did a fellowship in Cognitive Neuroscience at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, MD.
